and Answers about Property Repair System's Boron Product Range
Q. WHY DO WE SELL BORON
A. Boron compounds
are derived from naturally occurring minerals and are essential for
plant growth. Humans require from 0.5 to 3.1 mg per day to remain healthy
and this can be obtained from food and water, in a well balanced diet.
So, it makes sense to us to use this natural element in our treatments
for woodworm, dry rot, wet rot and mold. The compound that we use is
fully Licensed in Europe and the UK and has been in service worldwide
for over 100 years - click to read more History.
We like to sell the safest
available treatments for wood and Boron has an unrivaled safety record
throughout the world. It is odourless, makes into a colourless solution
in water and it does not evaporate once dry, so remains effective indefinitely.
It is used extensively in the USA because it is so safe.
Q. WHY ARE BORON
BASED PRODUCTS SO GOOD?
A. Boron based products
are unique in being able to control and eradicate many types of wood
boring insect, wood rots and molds. No other single compound of such
safety can match these features. It is known in many countries for controlling
Termites, Wool Moth and Fleas and for being injected into telephone
poles, electricity poles and railway sleepers to prevent rot and insect
Q. HOW LONG
HAVE WE BEEN SELLING BORON WOOD TREATMENTS?
have been involved with specifying and selling Boron based products
for over 30 years, and selling them in our own Company for over 15 years.
In all that time we have never had any reason to doubt their effectiveness
and we have many Testimonials regarding Boron and its successes in dealing
with wood boring insects and wood rotting fungi.
Q. WHY ARE THERE DIFFERENT
TYPES OF BORON PRODUCT FOR DIFFERENT WOOD TREATMENTS?
the percentage of active ingredient - the Boron based part - is tailored
to the amount needed for a particular treatment, plus the form of the
product - be it dissolved in water, as a gel in glycol, as a paste,
or fused as a solid rod, is designed to react to percentage of moisture
inside the affected wood at particular levels. For example, we would
only specify a solid Boron Rod to be inserted into wood at, or above
softwood fibre saturation, which is between 28% and 32%. Whereas, at
the other extreme of concentration, Boron Ultra 12 powder dissolved
in water at 5% is suitable for timber that is completely dry.
Q. WHY IS BORON FREQUENTLY
MENTIONED AS BEING A FIRE RETARDANT?
many compounds of Boron are naturally capable of preventing the spread
of fire. If you take an ordinary piece of paper, soak it in a 10% solution
of Boron Ultra 12, allow it to dry fully and then try to light it you
will find it impossible to maintain a flame. It simply extinguishes
itself. This natural feature is a great benefit when treating wood for
woodworm or rot, particularly in roof spaces and thatched roofs. Borates
are natural fire retardants.
